Oilcloth my love....

Take a peek at some of the oilcloth! These pictures were taken using the phone.

Today I came across a beautiful site. Oilcloth. and more oilcloth. I can't explain it, but I have a passionate love for this slick material. I went down to City Craft today, I can't believe it was my first visit. I've known for a long time that I would be thrilled to see all the fabrics, however I was stunned to see all the oilcloth. I wanted to take it all home.

New Lion

There were a few minor issues with the last lion I painted for my son. The major issue being that he was afraid of it...so I decided to start anew, and paint something that he would hopefully enjoy. This little guy is what came out when I started painting and my son has been very pleased. His smiles and "roarrring", let me know for sure that this has been given his stamp of approval.

Sometimes, the old adage "out with the old and on with the new" is rather correct.

Go ahead....

Take a peek at a painting that has been in the works for quite some time. I'd tell you exactly how long but I'm too embarrassed to say. This will occasionally happen with a piece of work. I just have to figure out over time, and sometimes more time, what exactly is going on with my characters/images. Have you ever heard an author talk about their characters that way before... as if the characters take on a life of their own and unfold before them? Sometimes that is how it is with paintings.

I sit back and wait to find out what the story is...who the characters are...what will be said.

But, perhaps those paintings, with their plot and character development, make for the best paintings.

Painting for 2

This is a post of 2's. 2 days ago 2 people (my 2 year old and myself), painted their first picture together. I tried to step back and let him have fun all by himself but over the course of an hour he kept asking me to paint with him, so I joyfully gave in. Yes, if you go back over that last sentence I said an hour. My 2 year old son painted for over an hour on 1 painting. Usually he scribbles with crayons for about 30 seconds going through as many pieces of paper as I give him. Apparently painting is more his thing. We had so much fun working together, and I think the painting turned out rather nice.

I'm planning on hanging this in his room where he can see it and remember our fun painting that we did together. After completing the painting I immediately ordered A Child's Book of Art: Great Pictures - First Words. I've already received my shipping notification and can hardly wait to flip through it and see how he likes it.
