Take a peek at a painting that has been in the works for quite some time. I'd tell you exactly how long but I'm too embarrassed to say. This will occasionally happen with a piece of work. I just have to figure out over time, and sometimes more time, what exactly is going on with my characters/images. Have you ever heard an author talk about their characters that way before... as if the characters take on a life of their own and unfold before them? Sometimes that is how it is with paintings.
I sit back and wait to find out what the story is...who the characters are...what will be said.
But, perhaps those paintings, with their plot and character development, make for the best paintings.
